Huxted Trenchless completed four HDD shore approach crossings for the installation of two NSTAR hybrid submarine cables across Nantucket Sound in Massachusetts. On the mainland in Falmouth, Huxted installed two crossings of 2,117 feet and 2,520 feet with 18-inch HDPE pipe. On Martha’s Vineyard, the crew completed a 1,113-foot drill in Oak Bluffs and a 3,585-foot drill in Tisbury, also pulling in 18-inch HDPE pipe.

These were complex drills through varied ground formations with pockets of dense gravel. Working on an island in winter brought significant logistical challenges, including transporting two full drill spreads, consumables, and crews. All four drills were completed in one season and on schedule.
